The passion for motoring in Avezzano exploded in the 1950s, when the mayor of Avezzano prof. Angelo Tirabassi, making use of the support of a group of citizens, gave birth to the so -called Marsican week.
1952 - On the push of this initiative, the members of the MICAGHELI family organized the first edition of the Elia MICAGELELI Trophy. At first the event had regional character, then, starting from the 1960s it became nationally.
1968 - After the succession of thirteen editions, the Elia Micangeli Trophy, for organizational reasons, was no longer played.
1980 - The brothers Donato and Fernando Lombardi, owners of the President who, dusting off the automotive event, gave rise to the I Tarda President of the Targa, the brothers.
1985 - Thinking of doing something welcome to the old car enthusiasts, Lorenzo's family re -proposed the regularity race which, initially took the name of a gathering for vintage cars, do. Antonio Di Lorenzo and, subsequently became a Pietro and Antonio Di Lorenzo trophy, in memory of the two brothers who disappeared prematurely.
1988 - In conjunction with the Pietro and Antonio Di Lorenzo Trophy, thanks to the passion of the municipal administrators, the sensitivity of the Micangeli family and the availability of the President, at the end of the 1980s, the XIV Trophy Elia Micangeli and the II Targa President were also re -proposed. It was a historic year for the city of Avezzano, the year in which large drivers from all over Italy competed and among which the Avezzanese Stanislao Bielanski won.
1994 - Have at the 10th edition of the Pietro and Antonio Di Lorenzo Trophy, inside which the III Targa President was present, the organizers were forced to communicate to the participants that that would be, reluctantly, the last year of the Avezzano - Monte Salviano history.
2011 - Cav. Donato Lombardi, approached by the passion and marked organizational skills of Felice Graziani, brings to life the IV Targa President, a well -deserved success and, hopefully, lasting.
2021 - The Avezzano circuit enters the tricolor circuit of the Italian Historical Automoclub Federation, one of the 15 events sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, by that of Culture and Anci, the Association of Italian Municipalities.
2022 - 10 years of the Avezzano circuit: after only 10 years since the birth of the project, the crews are now 100 and the countries represented over 15. The level of cars has risen up to host 40 cars built before 1945.
A new initiative is born:
Abruzzo Gran Tour, to discover the beauties of the region. Over 400 kilometers of roads immersed in nature between uncontaminated landscapes.
2023 - Abruzzo Gran Tour to discover Teramo, with guided tours, concerts and many curves. The fortified citadel of Civitella del Tronto, the village of Atri and its wonders and finally Teramo with a breathtaking passage on the theater of the original Mille Miglia. Beauties to live aboard your cars.
NEW The re -enactment after 100 years of the Fucino Cup, a motorcycle event reserved for motorcycles built in the 1920s and 30 of the last century.

The "Elia MICAGHELI" Trophy
The Elia Micangeli Trophy was born in 1952 on the occasion of the Avezzano - Pietraquaria history, valid as a regional elimination for the assignment of the "silver steering wheel". Abruzzo.lamberto MICAGHELI was the first winner of Avezzano - Pietraquaria (1952), the Aquila Birardino lawyer Marinucci won the II edition (1953), while Lamberto Micangeli wandered success in 1954.Ripresa in 1961, after a few years of arrest, the event became a national nature, with the best Italian drivers in the race. XIII edition, the year in which the event fell into a long lethargy. Mrs. Anna Maria MiCaneli, daughter of Elia Micangeli, pleasantly remembers the moments lived during the succession of the events: "In the days before the race, the young people of the city, runners were discovered. We tried the path at all hours, in particular at night. The enthusiasm was contagious, those who could not participate cheered with all my heart for the friend in the race. Quote times I would have liked to be in the list of the participants, but my father has always found an excuse to leave me on the ground! I had to settle for the preparations in the previous days, sometimes lower the checkered flag at the start of a runner and, almost always, wait along the ramps of the route the passage of the many cars ". He brought back to life the event were, in 1980, the brothers Donato and Fernando Lombardi who proposed the I Targa President, then, in 1988, the municipal administration of Avezzano, Lombardi took the XIV and last edition of the Micangeli Trophy together with the II Targa President.
The "Di Lorenzo" Trophy
The event was born in 1985, from the volcanic spirit of Pietro di Lorenzo, enthusiast of engines from the most tender age and a vintage car collector, to remember his brother Antonio, equally passionate, who died prematurely.
1985 - The small parade of vintage cars begins its history in Avezzano by crossing the neighboring municipalities on a beautiful sunny day, with the participation of friends, enthusiasts and the great support of the then Citroen dealership by Angelo Venditti and children, who has collaborated so much in the early years of the event.
1986 - The following year, the Municipality of Avezzano gates a gold plaque for the winner and the council chamber is open to the participants for the awarding of the event, with the collaboration of the late mayor Sergio Cataldi.
1987 - In the third edition, Pietro Di Lorenzo also disappears but, his daughter Lucia, with the cousins and closest friends, decides to carry on the tradition and thus comes to life the Trodeo Pietro and Antonio Di Lorenzo, an event that, as a small local meeting, is transformed, year after year, into a national resonance event.
1988/1993 - Participants from Sicily, Puglia, Emilia Romagna, Calabria, Lazio, Basilicata, Tuscany and obviously many passionate friends of Abruzzo and Marsicans arrive, allowing the gold register of the manifestation to color illustrious names of historical automoting and offering participants every year a new path to explore all the beauties of Marsica and its splendid landscapes. Over the years they alternate editions pervaded as a great competitive spirit, with others more playful, always in a frame of friendship and affectionate participation.
1994 - The organizing committee profounds all its efforts for a three -day edition, the X edition, which from Avezzano winds down to Scanno and Pescasseroli, to cross the Abruzzo National Park and then the five miles plan, towards Roccaraso. Finally, the return to Avezzano, lapping Sulmona and crossing the splendid sirente, with a stop at the Castle of Celano, for lunch fled. All the energy profused in this edition, however, hides the irrevocable decision to communicate that it is the last. The ever growing difficulties of technical management and excessive costs require reflection.
2011 - By the will of the Knight of Work Donato Lombardi, the adventure of historical motorism in Marsica restarts with the third edition of the Targa President. The first in the 60s and the second in the eighties as a prize inside the Lorenzo Cup, continues the passion of the four vintage wheels. Until 2013 he continues as Targa President and, the Avezzano circuit was born, first during the day and, from 2014 at night.
The event is now permanently on the ASI calendar that every year rewards with the "Golden Crank".
2016, fourth edition of the Avezzano circuit, Mibact attributes the patronage for the merits of tourism and landscape promotion of the Abruzzo territory.
2012 was born the first edition of the "Avezzano circuit", from an intuition of the journalist Eliseo Palmieri, at the time councilor for culture of the city.
